Who is Eriberto Oriol?

He is an artist/activist that is making a difference.

Art is a powerful vehicle for communication and a way to express a vision that is beyond the capacity of words.

In this mural, artist Alex Poli aka ManOne is working to do just that and going beyond words is recognizing Eriberto for his contribution to the community as an artist, mentor, and activist.

ManOne has known Eriberto for about 15 years and knows him for working to make a difference in other young artists’ career through his art, photography, voice, and encouragement.

Thank you ManOne for acknowledging Eriberto’s contribution to the arts through this mural.

The mural is on Echo Park Street one block west of Sunset Blvd.

“What Makes Art Valuable?”

It is the magic and power of the imagination that adds value to art.

.

The genius of an artist is the one that responds to the sense of wonder and magic of imagination. Even when not knowing where the journey will lead, or what is the meaning of their inspiration.

Some feel that being an artist is not a realistic way of life. Eriberto feels that the integrity of life is to follow the wisdom of one’s heart.

In his painting “Obscure Identity,” the figure’s face is obscured and she appears to be traveling in space as if on a journey to bring her out the shadows of obscurity. The balance of bold colors and lines gives the figure a certain kind of grace and elegance.

Eriberto feels that ART is sometimes seen, as a romantic cult for odd people that reject everyone else’s opinion and are doing what he or she feels is their call.

For him, the artwork is the reward for having listened to the inner call of one’s imagination and traveled on a journey to the unknown.   It is this operative link between imagination and the final result that gives value to art.

Cosmic Creativity?

"Cosmic Woman" painting by Eriberto Oriol

“Cosmic Woman” painting by Eriberto Oriol

In his paintings, Eriberto Oriol’s characters are often missing the real structure of what is supposed to be a full body and often all you see are interactions of the shapes, color and texture.

Eriberto does not want to be pigeonhole in ONE style. It is hard at times to have the unique distinction of being an artist, but Eriberto sees it as a privilege to be able to express the magic of his imagination.

Projecting his emotions through color, line, his work has more of an international flair from inspirations that comes from great art from Asia, Africa and Mesoamerica.
